Custom Manufactured Powerhouse Exceeds Expectations

Challenge

A petrochemical facility located in the Puget Sound was facing new safety regulations that required upgrading part of their electrical system to meet blast resistant requirements. They were looking for a turnkey solution to minimize install time, meet class 1 division 2 standards and carry a Washington State Gold Seal for structures.

Solution

Access Electric Supply worked hand in hand with the customer and external consultant to understand the unique requirements of the powerhouse, as well as timing and budget constraints. The customer desired differing manufacturers for the switchgear, low voltage drives, and medium voltage starters, all incorporated under one roof. With Access Electric Supply’s unique vendor relationships, they were able to coordinate all electrical manufacturers, along with the structure manufacturer to develop a solution that met the customer’s needs.

Outcome

The project was kicked off with an expedited time frame and delivered in time to meet the customer turn around. The petrochemical facility was able to comply with the next regulations and avoid costly extended shutdowns. Due to Access’s ability to coordinate all vendors and turnkey the solution, the project came in 18% below the next best offer. This solution has been so successful that this facility has continued with three more powerhouses with Access since the original install.
